Tipping : what should I do ?

Here in the US, waiters depend on gratuities to supplement a typically low basic wage. The time-honored rule is to tip at leats 15%, even for merely aberage service, and more if it is spiffing. However, don't hesitate to tip less if service is poor.

An easy way to calculate your tip : double the 9.5% Californian sales tax on the bill.

At last, be aware : some restaurants add directly the tip on the bill for parties of 6 or more. It should be written somewhere on the menu, or the bill.
