Restaurant opening : Txoko
The reputation of the basque country’s gastronomy has gone far beyond its borders, to San Francisco. Now, with Toxko (meaning “gastronomical society”, a name full of promises!), the new San Sebastian inspired restaurant- tapas bar that just opened in North Beach, at the ancient location of Enrico’s, San Franciscans are going to have to learn the basque language!
The concept ? Small tapas plates and pintxos, a typical tiny but generous sandwich served with a pincho (toothpick), a lively atmosphere and spanish late night hours (until 2AM). The owners, Ryan Maxey and chef Ian Begg did not recently turn up from the Basque Country, but owned the neighboring sandwich spot, Naked Lunch, they have run for 2 years.
Menu samples : pintxos of Foie gras torchon, grilled baby octopus, sole a la plancha, petit basque and gâteau basque. Welcome to San Sebastian !
