LES COWBOYS, ANOTHER FRENCH FILM TO WATCH IN SAN FRANCISCO

in

Thomas Bidegain directed an intense and unsettling drama with Belgian actor François Damien and American one, John C. Reilly.

You may know Thomas Bidegain already. He collaborated with French director Jacques Audiard for the screenplays of A Prophet and Rust and Bone. It happens that his first movie as a director got released in San Francisco at the same time as Dheepan, the latest movie by... Jacques Audiard. Chance? Coincidence?

François Damien is absolutely stunning as a father looking desperately for his daughter who disappeared. This family drama sometimes looks and sounds like a thriller. The second part is not as believable and moving as the first one (according to us), but the last scene is literally overwhelming through its silent intensity.

The story biefly...

When his daughter goes missing from their prairie town east of France, Alain and his young son, Kid, head out to find her. The journey takes the men to some far-off and unsettling places in what begins to feel like an endless quest.
