LA BOULANGE IS GOING TO CLOSE IN SAN FRANCISCO
Starbucks officially announced its decision to close the 23 La Boulange pastry shops in San Francisco and the Bay Area this coming September. What the heck!?
We were just enjoying a great evening with the Warriors winning over the Cavaliers their first NBA title in 40 years when, taking a look at the news, we found this article in the WSJ. La Boulange is going to close its 23 locations in San Francisco and the Bay Area!
Trying to adjust to the shocking news, we already felt nostalgia! We all have our own story with La Boulange which defintely belongs to San Francisco landmarks.
How are we going to tell the kids that the afterschool snack on Cole is over. No more pain au chocolat, not more cinnamon morning bun, no more apple turnover... Hum. Sigh!
How to tell them that, if they still want a croque monsieur, creamy with chives, they will have to learn and bake it themselves.
And what about the appointments for work or not? And the coffee with some friends in the morning before starting the day? And the mini-sandwiches? And the salads? And the bowls, so French?
And yes, we all have our favorite ones. For us, it all started on Cole. Of course, La Boulange de Cole! Its street corner, its chairs and tables on the sidewalk, its people, the guy with a parrot on the shoulder, its kids after 3:30pm yelling and giggling around...
And what about La Boulange de Pine. Hum... with the smell of freshly baked bread. Some people say that this smell makes people happy!
We love La Boulange de Polk too. The green one on its luminous street corner. A classic! Cozy and friendly.
And among the latest ones, La Boulange de Sunset is such a great realisation. Simple, vast, modern and yet loyal to the La Boulange established style and charm. And its tiny terrace, in front of the bakery, prooved the grumpy ones that fog is not a calamity in this neighborhood.
And now? What is going to happen? So many things can happen actually. Like... we will find out that Le Pain quotidien wanted to move West Coast, that la maison Kayser got bored in New York or that Le Grenier à Pain made the decision to move from Paris. Ok, most probably none of that.
What is sure is that a page is about to be turned. We just hope that the new one will be written with the same talent and skill!
LA BOULANGE
And now, until September, enjoy the 23 cuurent locations in San Francisco and the Bay Area.
