GENDER IN TRANSLATION, AFTER HOURS
Friday,November 4, 2016
4:30pm - 10pm
@ San Francisco Art Institute
Lola Lafon will join Marie-Hélène Bourcier et Brice Dellsperger for this event that is the last one of many of them, sponsored by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States. They will talk and debate about feminism, sex and gender in our society, in constant mutation, on a political as weel as on a societal point of view. Considering the presidential election campaign we currently witness, these topics have never been so relevant and so significant.

It is a great opportunity for us to remind you that Green Apple Books on the Park (the name tells it all - This is the store on 9th Avenue, not the one on Clement.), former Le Video, opened a French Corner last Spring, collaborating with the prestigious Albertine in New York.
And here is our guide to best addresses of bookstores in San Francisco.
Lola Lafon has already come many times to San Francisco. For instance, she attended the Litquake 2 years ago to present her latest novel, ''We are the birds of the coming storm''. We have had a chance to meet her for an interview. Click below to read it... in French only:-)

We are delighted Lola Lafon is back. Her novel ''The Little Communist Who Never Smiled'' is a pure delight.
For those who remember the Olympics in Montreal in 1976, the thrill will be even more important. She tells the story of Nadia Comaneci, the young angel from Romania, who set up new standards in gymnastics. Every young girls wanted to look like her and follow her path.
The literary form adds to the reading enjoyment. Lola Lafon is not only telling the story of the young Romanian athlete from there to now. She has like a made-up dialog with Nadia Comaneci who can then argue, question and give her own interpretation. This shows us how thruth concept can be ''malleable''. Memories and experiences change in our mind and become our own truth.
