WOMEN: New Portraits by Annie Leibovitz, in Crissy Field

Major art event in San Francisco with the opening of this outstanding exhibition by Annie Leibovitz, celebrating women. Watch out. On April 17, 2016, it will be over.

WOMEN : New Portraits, the new exhibit in the Presidio, reflects the changes in the roles of women today. In addition to the new photographs, the exhibition includes work from the original series as well as other photographs taken since.

Annie Leibovitz began her career as a photojournalist for Rolling Stone in 1970, while she was still a student at the San Francisco Art Institute. Her pictures have appeared regularly on magazine covers ever since. In 1983, when she joined the staff of the revived Vanity Fair, she was established as the foremost rock music photographer and an astute documentarian of the social landscape. For over three decades, at Vanity Fair and later at Vogue, she has been adding to a large and distinguished body of work that includes some of the most well-known portraits of our time.

''In partnership with UBS, the legendary photographer will create new work that reflects the changing roles of women today. The project is an updating of a series of portraits she made in collaboration with Susan Sontag over fifteen years ago. Starting in London in January, the photographs will be shown in 10 cities in 12 months.''

We went there, we loved it, we share the good feeling!

First walk along the tiny wall with 4 rows of great photos. We still wonder why they put photos so low.

Then take a seat and watch the screens where dozens of portraits are displayed oen after one, not that randomly. And behind, the British Queen seems to watch the whole show.

In the end, we would recommend you spend some time in the room with tables and chairs to browse great books filled with Annie Leibovitz photos.

It is a great moment to spend in a very familiar environment. That's when you realize how Annie Leibovitz has been present in our visual world throughout the last decades.
