WELCOME TO THE INNER SUNSET
LostinSF invites you to discover its favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco. Hard to rank them, but let's start with our beloved Inner Sunset, a not that secret gem along the Golden Gate Park.
From Arguello to teh 19th avenue, south of the Golden Gate Park, the Inner Sunset is a wonderful neighborhood to live in. We even had the feeling that its residents made sure not to communicate too much to avoid too big of a crowd. Some people like to say that it would be a dream place if it was not for the fog... These people don't go very often around 9th and Irving!
We could tell you...
that, above Irving, the view can be litterally breathtaking: GGB, the Ocean, and for some privileged ones, the Marin Headlands!
that, otherwise, it is rather even and a great area to walk and ride your bike.
that there is a wide choice of businesses from restaurants, gift stores, fashion stores, groceries, cafes, bars...
that it looks like a perfect balance between the Ocean and GGP on the one hand, and downtown only 15 mns away with the Muni, on the other hand.
that houses are really nice with surprising floorplans. Some of them are even supposed to have been built based on Frank Lloyd Wright plans. Very chic!!
that UCSF makes the neighborhood safe and not that noisy.
that you will meet kids, families, retired people, students, doctors...
that rents are rather reasonnable, compared with other neighborhoods. Even though reasonnable has not been so much in SF's vocabulary recently.
and yes, there is fog in the Inner Sunset... actually when it's fog season in SF. So, it is rather in Summer. And if you wish to escape it for a day, it's easy!
We can also tell you about our favorit spots, restaurants, stores and co.
Follow the guide to the Inner Sunset...
9th and Irving, it is a long story! Old residents and more recent ones.
Ebisu, our top 1 Japanese restaurant has been there for more than 30 years. The Blackthorn tavern is a great place to watch games or election nights. Its patio is super convenient. You will crave for Arizmendi's scones, grab a coffee at the Beanery, order a pizza at Pasquales, make a stop at the Magic shop or at the Sunset stationers and find a French movie (but not only) at Le Video (that will remain open! Bravo!). They all belonged to the Inner Sunset forever and ever!
New residents settled down in the last few years: Nopalito for a dinner, Ambiance or Cary.Lane (you will love the little sister of the the Hayes and Mission boutiques) for some fasion shopping, la Boulange de Sunset for a croissant and the very local San Franpsycho for distinctive t'shirts and boards.
And we did not even mention Wishbone, Chloe's Closet, Urban Bazaar, Social Kitchen and Brewery, the new Covet and Whistle a bit farther...
The Inner Sunset is bursting with amazing treasures. Our best advice... just go and check by yourself!
