The documentary, The Paris Opera, opens in San Francisco
The Paris Opera, the documentary by Jean-Stéphane Bron, opens in San Francisco and Berkeley on October 27, 2017.
Jean-Stéphane Bron delivered an amazing movie, enthralling even to uninitiated ones, either to Opera or to Ballet.
Jean-Stéphane Bron chose a very specific method. It goes from the final show, brilliant, spectacular, sumptuous, to rehearsals, backstage, to the hidden part of the beautiful and glorious result.
Tensions are real, like the strike annoucement or Benjamin Millepied leaving. But in the end, what prevails is the passion of the whole hard working crowd at this venerable institution, the passion, the talent and the dedication making magic happen.
The story birefly...
This all-access documentary showcases the individuals — from management to performers, costumers to the cleaning crew — who work tirelessly to bring breathtaking spectacles to life night after night. As the season progresses, director Jean-Stéphane Bron constructs a human comedy to rival those performed onstage. But this comedy is suddenly set against a tragic backdrop when terrorist attacks plunge Paris into mourning. Nevertheless, the determined members of the Paris Opera know the show must go on.
