THE BAY LIGHTS... AND NIGHT

The Bay Bridge Lights seemed to have been there like forever. Only 2 years actually and they will be gone soon!

We got used to them so quickly! The lights set was right away integrated in our environment and our photos and contributed to the beauty of the panorama. We even felt sometimes that the Golden Gate Bridge was a bit pale (at night) compared  with its Bay teammate.

We have been under the charm for the last 2 years. The Bay Bridge Lights interruption is no suprise though. Indeed, since the beginning, this glorious project was supposed to last until March 2015.

The surprise came last year from Illuminate the Art (the non-profit behind the Bay Lights) when it announced that they had raised $4 million through private donations and that this would allow to make the illumination last forever!

After March 5, 2015, the whole installation will dismantled. The Caltrans (California Stae Agency that owns the Bay Bridge) will start some required maintenance on the cables along the bridge).

The raised money will allow to re-install with new equipment the 25000 lights work of art. The purpose is to have them shine beginning of 2016 to be synchronised with the Super Bowl 50 (also called Golden Super Bowl because it will take place here, in San Francisco... or more precisely in Santa Clara where the Levi's Stadium stands).

And then, this amazing public art landmark will become the property of the California State that will be in charge of its maintenance so that it can shine and glow for years and years to come.

Only a few days left. Don't forget to immortalize the great panorama. And if you are an early bird... a short movie around 6am on March 6 should be a good candidate for a local buzz.
