THE ANDERSON COLLECTION AT STANFORD: A MUST SEE
Stanford built and opened Museum-Gallery to give space to a beautiful collection of modern and contemporary American paintings and sculpture, the Anderson Collection.
The Anderson Collection gathers 121 works of art by 86 artists, reprensenting different movements including Bay Area Abstraction, Bay Area Figuration, California Light & Space, Color Field Painting, Contemporary Painting, Funk, Hard-Edge Painting, New York School, and Post-Minimalism. At the Anderson Collection at Stanford University, visitors can explore the breadth of post-war American art and experience the distinctive art collecting vision of the Anderson family.

The Collection is simply stunning : Mark Rothko, Pollock, Sam Francis, Clyfford Still, Louise Nevelson and Martin Puryear, to mention only a few of them. Also Bay Area artists are represeneted: Wayne Thiebaud, David Park, Diekenborn. The iPad provided by the Museum is such an amazing tool to improve your knowledge and understanding as well as to discover a new artist.
The museum's reasonable size brings to a less than 2 hour-visit. Then make a stop at the Cantor Arts Center, grab a coffee and let your thoughts wander thinking of all the wonders you just had the opportunity to admire.
