You like Cafe Gratitude? You will like Gracias Madre. Conceived by the same people with the same "peace&love" spirit (a colorful mural of Mother Earth greets you at the entrance), the taqueria located in the Mission (where else?) is not the typical Mexican restaurant.
Ingredients are organic, locally grown in their «Be Love Farm» and OGM free, but it’s real originality is the entire vegan menu. Yes, you read me correctly… Mexican food 100% organic and vegan! Only vegetables and fruits, no meat or fish, no eggs, milk, or even honey. This is something you have to try.
And don’t be afraid. You can be a carnivore and love flavorful vegan dishes. Guacamole con tortillas, platillos de legumbres, tacos with your choice of veggies and cashew cheese… everything we tried was really delicious. The large dining room with its communal table is welcoming and friendly. The outdoor space is perfectly adapted to SF chilly evenings, and the crowd is young and hip, not family oriented.
Reservations are for party of 5 or more. In that case, we highly recommend that you reserve, but if you are less people, just show up and drink peacefully a margarita or a glass of milk … from coconut while waiting (wait can be long on certain days).
