Hotel Vertigo
Close to Union square. The Hotel from the eponymous Hitchcok movie. Ask for one of the renovated bedrooms. Reasonably priced. www.hotelvertigosf.com
No breakfast at the hotel. But the famous French owned Café de la Presse, 342 Grant av., a few blocks down the street, serves delicious croissants and fresh baguette. And for those who prefer pancakes and omelet, go straight to Sears Fine Food, 439 Powell street, a SF breakfast's institution.

A well known Boutique Hotel chain. About 10 hotels in SF. Usually well located and clean.
