Some weeks ago, we met Isabelle. Newly arrived in the Bay Area, she made the decision, based on her past experience in Paris in fashion retail, to launch Hector & Lola in the US.

We love the collection, the elegant details on the sleeves, on the elbow, the colors, the zips here and there, the buttons... And San Francisco is such a cashmere city, don't you think? Especially with summer getting closer!

Hector and Lola was created out of our desire to provide today’s woman with original designs that would immediately feel right and let her feel comfortably herself.

Hector & Lola based its reputation on the quality of its cashmere selection and production. In the world of cashmere, being tightly wound is actually a good thing. High quality cashmere is made to last, so the knit structure is very important. Most manufacturers will make light, loosely knit, poorly constructed garments to reduce weight and therefore the cost. In turn, this product will be low in quality and perform poorly. At Hector and Lola, our cashmere is tightly knitted so you can enjoy your sweater or cardigan for much longer. A quick cashmere quality check: stretch the sweater body side to side and see if it snaps back into shape.

Contrary to popular belief, pilling on cashmere is not a sign of poor quality or a design fault. The pilling is a natural characteristic of the long fibers and can be easily removed using a cashmere comb or a sweater stone. It should disappear after several cleanings. At Hector and Lola, we are so sure of the quality of our products, we are one of the very few to print “Machine Washable” on our labels.

The feel and drape of our cashmere will actually improve through wear and washing, as the fiber strands open up to become fuller and softer. Fiber length directly affects the quality of the knitwear: the longer the cashmere fibers are, the higher the tensile strength of the clothing, and consecutively, the better the product durability. Nowadays, most manufacturers use shorter fibers (less than 1.2 inches or 3 centimeters). This not only reduces the price, but also results in a higher rate of pilling (small wooly balls). Over a short period of time you will notice the garment loses weight and looks worn-out. At Hector and Lola, our women’s sweaters and cardigans only use fibers longer than 2.3 inches (6 centimeters).
