eXposed, the latest photo exhibit at the Harvey Milk Photo Center
eXposed, a juried exhibition of street photography opening December 8, 2016, is a selection of San Francisco Street Photography by members of the San Francisco Street Photography Group, hosted at the Harvey Milk Photo Center.
The Harvey Milk Photo Center is presenting until January 22, 2017 the photo exhibition eXposed.
Street photography is a very subtle, nuanced and challenging genre of photography. Street images capture a unique moment in time. The better of these images fully engage the viewer, tapping into an emotion at some level that draws one into the visual story. They do this through the use an interesting subject, strong compositional elements and solid execution. It is the challenge of the street photographer to anticipate, to see and to execute in such a way as to present a compelling narrative of everyday life, all within a single frame.
The photographers of the SF Street Photography Group have been exploring the streets from the Marina to Excelsior, from the Embarcadero to Outer Sunset for years. They captured commuters, shoppers, culture-seekers and tourists alike, all contributors to the rich fabric of life on The City’s streets. Their images also examine the deep-rooted social contradiction that exists here, where the harsh realities of living in the streets intimately co-exists with über-sophisticated urban cool.
Organized in late 2013, the San Francisco Street Photography Group is an active community of visual artists that share a common passion for street photography in the City and County of San Francisco. The group offers a platform that enables Bay Area street photographers to share their work, wisdom, and experiences documenting street life in the City, as well as a chance to meet many others in the area. This community brings together – both virtually and personally – a wide range of experience within the genre from which all members benefit.
