The French cellist Gautier Capuçon will play Shostakovich at the SF Symphony in March.

The French cellist Gautier Capuçon will join MTT once again almost 2 years after his last performance in San Francisco.

Gautier Capuçon (whose brother, Renaud Capuçon, is also renowned as a great violonist) is considered as one of the most talented cellists of his generation. He is constantly on tour, worldwide performing. In March, Gautier Capuçon will play in Paris, Leipzig (and a few other cities in Germany), London, Prague and... San Francisco. Intense!

In the midst of this busy agenda, he is managing to supervise the ''Classes d'Excellence'' at the renowned Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris. These classes gather young cellists who have been strictly selected for their talent and gift.

Gautier Capuçon will give 4 concerts in San Francisco beginning of March, including one matinee on March 2nd.  The acclaimed cellist joins Michael Tilson Thomas for Shostakovich’s provocative Cello Concerto No. 1. The orchestra then plays Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique Symphony, known as one of the composer’s proudest achievements.

Gautier Capuçon performed in Chicago last December. He then played Prokofiev, Stravinsky and Saint-Saëns, at the Symphony Center... accompanied by MTT himself, who had made the trip to join him. Reunion scheduled  in March in San Francisco!
