Friday, November 9

Social Studies, a San Francisco-born group, has a sound that is rhythmic, melodic, a little dark and a lot Bay Area. Indie Rock that goes hypnotic on a concert stage.

The group, composed of Nathalia Rogovin (voice, keyboards), Michael Jirovski (drums), Jesse Hudson (bass) and Tom Smith (guitar), gained a strong fan base with their pop-modern first album “Wind Up Wooden Heart” in 2010. Since then, they have spent a lot of time on the road, playing festivals such as CMJ, South by Southwest, Noise Pop, etc. They have shared the stage with  TuneYards, Wye Oak, Lotus Plaza, Au Revoir Simone, The Dodos, and more.

Their new album, “Developer” (which will be released on the 19th of November by Antennae Farms Records) is more mature, tends more towards the exploration of the group’s musical texture, and has more emotionally rock sensibilities. The melodies and the concepts behind the text stay with you, get under your skin. To celebrate its release, Social Studies is playing on Friday, Nov 9, at 9PM (doors open at 830), at the Independent. The Sam Chase will share the stage, and the event is certain to appeal to those who enjoy an energized show, inexpensive drinks, and an ambiance a little hipster and very of the moment.
