Alonzo King LINES Ballet - Fall 2012

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, October 19-28

"Alonzo King is one of the few, true Ballet Masters of our times." said William Forsythe from famous visionnary choreographer Alonzo King who is altering the way we look at ballet.

Since its founding in 1982, his internationally celebrated contemporary ballet company, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, has been guided by his unique artistic vision. King creates works that draw on a diverse set of deeply rooted cultural traditions, imbuing classical ballet with new expressive potential.

For its 30th Anniversary year, Alonzo King LINES Ballet premieres a new collaboration with noted visual artist Jim Campbell  at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. King, Campbell, and the LINES Ballet dancers most recently collaborated on Exploded Views, an installation of a three-dimension moving image on view at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art through October 2012. For their collaboration at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Campbell is designing a set of 1,000 controlled LED spheres sthe dancers will interact with.

San Francisco previous Mayor Gavin Newsom presented the Mayor's Art Award to Alonzo King in 2008, calling him a "San Francisco treasure." When you look at these pictures (imagine with the movement of dancers) you understand why!
